Increasing the capacity of MTBT transformers

Optimize your power and avoid costly investments

We manage to generate up to 30% more capacity in your existing transformers

Increasing production capacity: the Stations of the Cross

In the last few years, several industrial companies have been confronted with the limited capacity of their electricity distributor’s network or with the additional cost required by the latter to reinforce the distribution infrastructure necessary to carry the requested surplus power.

In many cases, this forces them to abandon their extension project because the expected return on investment is no longer possible due to this unforeseen additional cost. In other cases, they fall back on “troubleshooting” solutions, such as running part of their installation with a generator. But this increases operating costs and thus limits their competitiveness.

The cost of the kWh produced with a Generator was, at the end of 2019, at 2,8 Dhs HT (0,25 €) against approximately 1 Dhs HT (0,085 €) for a subscription in Medium voltage. Not to mention the hassles that this kind of solution poses, such as the additional maintenance effort, the supply logistics to be put in place, etc.

The solution is often found within your installation

Thanks to our long experience in this field (ELEXPERT realized the first solution of this type already in 2008) we have learned that in most cases it is not really necessary to increase the power of the MVBT transformer, but that the optimization of the operation of the existing transformer is sufficient.

In most cases, we manage to free up
up to 30% power reserves in the existing
in the existing transformer.

A global approach, in 4 steps

Thanks to very detailed analyses of your load profile and to a complete and sophisticated measuring equipment, our engineers carry out simulations with the help of software such as PowerVP highlighting the different energy flows involved.

They then develop four-step scenarios to achieve the most ambitious goals for increasing your facility’s capacity:

1
First, reduce or eliminate all forms of reactive energy using our MTBT transformer capacity optimization solutions. This generally releases up to 30% more power
2
If these solutions are not enough, reduce active power peaks, using our power limiting solutions called . Depending on the case, this makes it possible to release 5% to 15% of additional power
3
To go even further in optimization, implement energy saving solutions. The potential here is usually around 5% to 20% more power
4
Finally, for the most extreme cases, we can consider the integration of other sources of active energy: energy storage systems, synchronous generators, etc.

In general, we recommend the installation of an Energy Management System which will allow you to constantly monitor your installation and control the main critical parameters. All the equipment that will be installed will be connected to this system, thus constituting an internal Smartgrid (or intelligent network)
