Equipotentiality of earthing networks

Lightning strikes on or near the site can cause flashover effects and stray currents that are triggers in hazardous areas or destructive to electronic equipment.

The grounding networks must be made in such a way that theyThe grounding networks must be made in such a way as to ensure a uniform rise in potential of the grounds and masses on the site.

The protection system is divided into lightning protection zones (LZ), defined by the NM IEC 62305-4 standard

An equipotential network is set up at the limit of each lightning protection zone (direct or by SPD).

It is necessary to verify that the transient overvoltages likely tos to be transmitted by power lines are not a potential trigger in areas at risk and, if possible, to provide for the followingIf necessary, lightning arresters should be provided.

A protection at the head of the installation, placed in the main LVB, allows to break the lightning wave coming from the incoming electrical network and to suppress a large part of its energy.

The choice of arresters must be made according to their discharge current capacity (factor retained for primary arresters), their residual voltage (important factor for secondary arresters), the nominal voltage of the network (generally 400V three-phase) and the neutral distribution scheme (TN, TT, IT).

The quality of the installation is just as important as the choice of the protections. This is why special care is taken to ensure that the information is accurate, based on the guide UTE C 15-443 (August 2004)
